East of England fuelling house prices
Overall UK prices rose 6.1% in the year to September, while prices in the east rose 8.4% according to new data from the Office of National Statistics. Richard Sexton, Director of e.surv chartered surveyors, suggested the area had been boosted by its location as a commuter haven: "As the high prices of London persist, buyers are forced to look elsewhere. Strong employment hubs such as Cambridge are making the east an attractive alternative to Greater London and injecting a new energy into the area's housing market," he said.
